Gallaher Elementary School is named for Robert Sidney Gallaher. He was an active member of the Newark Board of Education from 1911 to 1950.

Robert S. Gallaher  Elementary School is a school that fosters leadership at every level! We are a 2025 Leader in Me LIGHTHOUSE School Award Recipient! From staff to students, our diverse school community leads with their strengths! At Gallaher, students will discover their full potential! 

Our caring and dedicated staff educates the whole child by nurturing future leaders through relationship building, collaboration, and communication in a safe and respectful environment.

Who We Serve

Gallaher Elementary serves a diverse student and staff population and is proud to be part of the culturally-rich Newark area. Approximately 31% of our students are African-American, 30% Hispanic or Latino, 26% white, 6% Asian-American, 5.5% Multi-Racial, <1%Native American and <1% Native Hawaiian / Pacific Islander.

The staff and students at Gallaher are empowered to lead their own learning.  We believe that everyone can be a leader and we focus on finding everyone's genius.  We know that change starts with us.  Our educators and families partner to develop the full person.
